William Jurian Kaula-was born in Massachusetts in 1871 and lived there all his life. He attended the Massachusetts Normal Art School, now called the Massachusetts Art School of Boston and the Cowles Art School of Boston. He also studied in Europe at the Academie Julian. William Kaula met his wife while studying in Crecy, France. She was an artist from Erie, Pennsylvania, her name was Lee Lufkin, she was an artist in her own rite. They shared the first studio at Fenway Studios in Boston. William Kaula is known for his New England landscapes. His fellow artists noted that he would allow the mood of the scene dictate the tone of the painting.
