Walter Gay  was born in Hingham Mass. in 1856. He studied in Paris, France and he lived, married and was active in France. Walter Gay lived with his wife on a 300-acre Chateau in France, where he and his wife collected antiques until his death in 1937. Upon his death, The New York Times called him “The Dean of American Painters in France. This richly hued still life is an oil on board, signed lower left W. Gay 1895 and measures 17 x 13 including the shadowbox frame.
