American
Robert Henri (1865-1929) was one of these artists. He painted numerous portraits of high society women, young children, and ethnic portraits. Henri and several other artists rebelled against the National Academy of Design and started another art school called “The Eight”. He was also instrumental in starting the Ashcan School. Henri painted landscapes as relaxation from the rigors of portrait work. His work is considered Social Realism and highly desirable.
