 N.C. Wyeth was one of the most famous American illustrators.  Wyeth’s commemorative illustration for his friend George Twiggs for his sixtieth birthday.  Wyeth only painted American scenes as he once was quoted “you will not see anything foreign in any of my paintings. 

He was one of America's greatest illustrator as well as an accomplished easel painter, dedicated his career to depicting American subjects in a fresh, energetic manner uninfluenced by European art - "true, solid American subjects - nothing foreign about them," as he put it in 1903.
