George Thomson was born in Ontario, Canada in 1868. He had four brothers and one sister who all became artists. He decided to go to a business college in Canada and then moved to Washington state where he entered law school. He decided to become a painter at the age of 38 years old. He moved to Old Lyme Colony in Connecticut in 1908. He lived a worked there until 1911 and moved to New Haven, CT.
