George Cochran Lambdin- was born in Pittsburg, PA in 1830 and died in Philadelphia in 1896.  George Lambdin was famous for his florals, especially his roses that were from his own garden.   George early training in art was from his father James Reid Lambdin a successful portraitist.  His family moved to Germantown where he remained until his death.  He traveled to Europe and studied in Munich and in Paris in 1855, finally to Rome in 1870.  He exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy in 1848 and in 1850 through 1880s, he exhibited at the National Academy of Design.  Mr. Lambdin quit painting in 1887 plagued by illness and died in 1896.

The painting is an oil on canvas signed lower left and dated George C Lambdin 82.  On the back of the painting is an old label Dr. J.M. Peckham, Philadelphia and incised on the stretcher the artist’s name George Lambdin.  The painting has been relined and measures 24 x 20.5 canvas and framed 29 x 26.  The price of this painting in $4500 or best offer.
