 Antonio Zeno Shindler was born in 1813.  He fled his native country and made his way to Paris to study art.  In the mid19th Century he was a drawing instructor at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.  He took a tour out west with an Englishman William Blackmoor.  Shindler became enamored with the west and the Native American Indian.  He painted as well as photographed the Native American subjects and exhibited his works in the A.Zeno Shindler American Indian Photographic Collection.  This collection is housed at the American Philsophical Society.  Shindler worked at the Smithsonian Institute specializing in ethnographic subjects.  Shindler died in Washington, D.C. in 1899.  

The painting of the Yellowstone Lake in Wyoming is 16 x 20 framed.  The painting is an oil on board, signed and titled on the verso and is in good condition.
