The artist for this illustration is Verne Tossey. Tossey was born in 1920 was active in Oregon until his death in 2002. Tossey belonged to the Art Student League in New York City. His realistic illustrations were of varied scenes, but his cowboy scenes were some of his best.
This is an interesting illustration of a battle scene with a nurse and doctor working on a wounded soldier, while the war rages on behind them. The painting is oil on artist board signed on the lower right. It is framed in a plain wood frame and measures 29 x 22. The painting is in good condition.
