Portrait Painting by Walter Frankl

SKU: RL

Walter Frankl was born to immigrant Jewish parents in 1888 in the "geat blizzard" in New York City. Frankl served in World War I and was one of the first people to cross into Germany, because he spoke the language fluently. He suffered from shell shock after returning to the United States. He and his wife stayed in different apartments owned
by good friends in New York City. There is very little on where he learned to paint. He did not have much success in New York City, but he did have a lot of success in Cooperstown where he summered and had a studio in a barn there. He died in 1963 in Cooperstown.

This oil on canvas painting by canvas painting signed lower left by Walter Frankl. The back of the painting there is an exhibition label along with a photo of the model named "Sybil." The painting measures 29 x 29 in a gold frame.
