Elihu Vedder was born in New York City in 1836. He studied art in New York and then traveled to Paris and where he studied art as well. He returned to the United States for a short period of time and then moved permanently to the Island of Capri. Vedder's most famous body of work was an the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayman that he illustrated the cover of the book as well as 50 illustrations in the book. The book was based on poetry of a Persian mathematician written in 1120 AD.

The painting is a beautiful coastal scene, oil on board signed on the lower right. The painting is good condition no repairs and framed.
