Aaron Draper Shattuck

Aaron Draper Shattuck was born in 1832 in New Hampshire and died in Granby, Connecticut at the age of 98. Shattuck was the 2nd generation of Hudson River School artists. He was educated in New Hampshire and Lowell, Mass. In 1851, he learned portrait painting and landscape painting with Alexander Ramson from Boston. He loved painting detailed landscapes and farm animals on small canvasses.

Shattuck studied at the National Academy and was elected to full Nation Academician in 1861. He exhibited Brooklyn Art Association. He also exhibited with John Kensett, Samuel Coleman and Jasper Cropsey.

Shattuck was also an inventor and had several patents. He worked as a violin maker and finished his career at the age of 88 due to failing eyesight.

The painting is an oil on canvas painting of a landscape signed lower right. The painting is nicely framed.
